Interpersonal relationships are ever-changing you are constantly meeting new people with new expectations/qualities. Personal relationships remain semi constant and while there are obstacles--you have a similar network and toolbox to use to work through them.

I believe that too many people have a difficult time in keeping in mind that not relationship need to move to the personal. They quickly forget what was it that made their relationship friendly. Many relationships are made for the sake of some personal gain be either material or physical. Some are to quit to allow someone pleasure to fill their need for intimacy. Sadly, one's pleasure does not equal emotional feelings. If the pleasure is base on what other provides, when the gain material/physical cease so does the relationship.
