Albert Einstein was a theoretical physicist born on March 14, 1879. He was also an author and a philosopher, and was widely considered one of the most influential scientific figures in history. Although born to German and Swiss parents, Einstein later became a U.S. citizen. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921, and is widely considered the father of modern physics, particularly for his work in Theoretical Physics, and the discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect. Einstein died on April 18, 1955.
Sir Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1643. An English physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and natural philosopher, Newton was also an alchemist and theologian. Along with Einstein, Newton is considered one of the most influential scientists in history.
Accomplishments
Einstein was responsible for the publication of over 300 scientific works, and more than 150 non-scientific works. He was the recipient of numerous honorary doctorate degrees in science, medicine and philosophy from various universities in Europe and the United States. His broad range of written work encompasses socialism and international relations, and he has also written extensively about the existence of God. To this day, the word "Einstein" is often used to describe people of exceptional intelligence and genius.
Newton’s most notable work was "Mathematical Principles Of Natural Philosophy", which was published in 1687, and is most often called “Principia”. Considered by many to be the most important scientific work ever to have been written, the book paved the way for a large part of classical mechanics. Principia covers subjects such as universal gravitation and the laws of motion, along with other concepts that played a prominent role in the study of the physical universe for the three hundred years. Newton also introduced the theory that the movements of objects on the Earth and the celestial bodies are subject to the same natural laws. Newton was also responsible for the advancement of the Scientific Revolution.
Interesting Facts
Einstein was quite a recognizable figure in his later years, with a white mustache and wildly unkempt hair that made him an easy subject for cartoonists and illustrators to this very day. He was in fact so well-known in the United States during World War II that he was often stopped on the street by people who wanted an explanation of the Theory of Relativity.
Newton for his part was actually a very religious man who belonged to the unorthodox Christian church. In fact, Newton actually produced more Biblical and occult works than scientific and mathematical journals in his lifetime.
