Difference between Aveeno and Neutrogena

Aveeno and Neutrogena are both subsidiaries of Johnson & Johnson. They both manufacture similar types of products, although Neutrogena has a much wider range of different products than Aveeno.

Aveeno and Neutrogena are well-known for their skin care products, particularly those which are designed to help get rid of skin problems such as acne.

Distribution

Neutrogena products are known and sold worldwide, Neutrogena sells its products to more than 70 different countries around the world. Aveeno products are only sold in stores in the United States.

Products

Aveeno products are associated with natural ingredients. Many of their products are designed to help with particular skin conditions and problems, such as psoriasis, eczema, chicken pox, sunburn, hives and poison ivy. Aveeno does produce products that are suitable for everyday use, and it also manufactures a line of hair care products, but it tends to be associated with products for problem skin. Aveeno products are often recommended by dermatologists. They can be very effective in alleviating the symptoms of skin problems. They also contain natural ingredients, so they can be a good option for anyone who prefers to avoid chemicals.

Neutrogena produces a wide range of cosmetics and toiletries, including skin and hair care products. Its range is more diverse than that of Aveeno, including cosmetics as well as skin care, hair care and sun care products similar to those manufactured by Aveeno. Many of Neutrogena's skin care products are recommended by dermatologists, but unlike Aveeno products, they do not rely on natural ingredients.

Some people favor one brand of products over the other, particularly for use on acne prone skin. However, different people will respond differently to the same products, so while Aveeno is most effective at getting rid of acne in some people, others find that the best way to get clear skin is to use Neutrogena.

History

Aveeno and Neutrogena are both American brands that have become part of the Johnson & Johnson company. Johnson & Johnson acquired Neutrogena in 1994 and Aveeno in 1999.

Aveeno was founded in 1945 by the two Musher brothers, Sidney and Albert. The name of the company is derived from the scientific name of the oat plant, Avena sativa, which can be used in skin care products. The first product which was manufactured by Aveeno was a Soothing Bath Treatment, which contained a fine oat powder. This treatment had been developed by the Musher brothers in conjunction with the Mayo Clinic, which became one of Aveeno's first customers. The company has continued to offer a range of products containing active natural ingredients that can soothe the skin and treat minor complaints. Aveeno was once owned by the Rydelle Laboratories division of the SC Johnson company, but it was taken over by Johnson & Johnson in 1999.

Neutrogena has its origins in the 1930 foundation of cosmetics manufacturer Natone, by Emanuel Stolaroff. The Neutrogena company remained independent until its takeover by Johnson & Johnson in 1994.

I was wondering when this review was written? So far I have seen Aveeno products on sale widely in the UK, Italy and Korea so I could presume that these products are available worldwide, not just in the US. Also, does any one happen to know if the formula for Aveeno products, particularly its body lotions is different in different countries?

I used the shea butter body lotion (blue one) in the UK for about 2 years now and since using the same lotion in Korea it stings my skin when I apply it. I also noticed that the bottle of the lotion is slightly different in the US and Korea than that in the UK. When I used the lotion in the UK it gave me such relief from my eczema, now I think I'll have to find an alternative! Any response would be appreciated!
