The technology in TV is changing to digital media more and more, so it is a wise choice to make a step toward a standard which will be either 720p or 1080p. For me, the choice of buying a 1080p TV comes from 2 things: the first comes from owning a PS3 and to maximize the experience with the highest resolution it supports plus enjoy games and movies and, secondly, want to "build" a home theater based on taking advantage of a good TV plus a good sound.

but sometime i or p are slow to display .. so sometime better with 720 P
I have had both pics from 1080i and 1080p and I do see a somewhat difference for the better on the 1080P. It is more money but it is a better pic,,,just my two cents.
i think the reason i pick it is because even if 1080 i or 1080p is the same i think when all 540 rows of pixels all show at once then the resolution is better and theres no picture lag
1080 is bigger and newer.

I have the 720 p and it displays what ever the content is if it 720 it's 720 and if it's 1080 it's 1080 !
