I have been to both cities, In paris the people are very rude and in London everyone was very nice and helpful. Walk into a restaurant in paris they act like you are bothering them while in London they are very polite. I will take London over Paris anytime.

London is the capital of the english speaking world and remains its dominant cultural centre. New York doesnt come close and Im a New Yorker. Paris is a beautiful museum city and has little influence on world culture these days. Does anyone know any MODERN french writer,
artist, musician? Paris lives on its artistic history while Londons MODERN artists are world famous in every field and no region of the USA can compete with the London region. London is the most visited city on earth and the most rewarding amazing experience for an english speaker. Tom

I think that because I can speak English, and it would be more comfortable to live there. I have no idea about French, so it would be impossible to live in Paris for me!

Better public transport, lower taxes, lower crime and anti-social behaviour. More architectural variety. Lower unemployment, better housing. No snobbish French to make fun of you, simply the tolerant, eccentric British.

Best city in the world

London has the edge over Paris for many different reasons.

London is more diverse than Paris. In London you can find huge communities of people from all over the world living here. Indian, Pakistani, Chinese, Filipino, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Polish, American, Australian, Caribbean, Brazilian, African, Egyptian, Turkish, Russian ... the list just goes on.

I'm sure Paris has a diverse range of people, but it's contrasts don't even come close to London.

Paris has a more uniform sense of Architecture. Whilst there is such thing as typical "Parisian Architecture", the styles of builings in London is too varied to determine a typical "London Architecture". From Old to Modern, Gothic Cathedrals, Grand Victorian Houses & Apartments, Art-Deco, Tudor, Medieval Castle (Tower of London) and modern buildings such as the Gherkin, Canary Wharf and many, many more.

Paris prides itself on its great food, which is true. It has a huge concentration of Michelin-Rated marvels, BUT, truth is, it just doesn't have the same choice of different cuisines like London does.

Having been to my Uncle's place in Paris many times, ive noticed that Paris lacks the same sense of Dynamism, it doesn't have as much diversity and Constrasts, and doesn't seem as "Worldly" and "Global" as London does.

In the Paris suburbs, you don't get Turkish Kebab Shops, Irish Pubs, Indian Curry Houses, Chinese Take-Outs, Italian Restaurants and (Ahem) French Bistros, whereas in London, whilst the Suburbs aren't at the same level as Central London, I can still go for Chinese, Indian, Thai, Turkish, French, Italian, Caribbean, Middle-Eastern, Greek, American Diner or Pan-Mediterranean within 10 mins of where I live (in a "Lower-Class" East London Suburb)

Lets not even get started on Financial Status, Business Hub or "Most visited city in the World" because we all know London wins hands-down.

BTW - I am not an ethnic Londoner. I am half Portuguese and Half French

London has much more to do. Better public transport. Better night life. A variety of amazing architecture old and new. Paris is all the same, beautiful, but a little boring. London has so many free attractions. It is classy and a true city of the world. Parisians seem to think Paris is the best place on earth as is... and maybe they should look around a bit and see what they can learn from other major cities and cultures. I am from nyc, live in london, and have spent months in paris. London has amazing food and tons of variety. Paris - just seems to have mainly french food. That said, Paris is beautiful and has some great sites to see...and I wouldn't turn down a free trip. But London - hands down!

Living in Paris is very different to visiting Paris as a tourist. The problem with living in Paris is that all the excitement of it is spent and bored within a few months and then one realises the sheer lack of drive and facility the city has.

Better weather, better foods, cheaper, the French are more elegant, and contrary to what this article say, it is really easy to find people who are able to speak English in Paris, and they speak English slower than the Brits, which is really convenient for non-native English speakers.

From Old to Modern, Gothic Cathedrals, Grand Victorian Houses & Apartments, Art-Deco, Tudor, Medieval Castle (Tower of London) and modern buildings such as the Gherkin, Canary Wharf and many, many more all mixed in together makes for quite an unsightly mess.

Paris prides itself on its great food, which is true. It has a huge concentration of Michelin-Rated marvels, additionally, truth is, London just doesn't have the same choice of different cuisines like Paris does.

Having been to my Aunt's place in Paris many times, I've noticed that Paris has a great sense of Dynamism, it has a lot of diversity and Constrasts, and London just doesn't seem as "Worldly" and "Global" as Paris does.

In the Paris suburbs, there are a large variety of quality international flavours and of course fantastic French restaurants, whereas in London, I can get Chinese, Indian, Thai, and American takeout of comparitively low quality.

Lets not even get started on Financial Status - the largest bank in the world (BNP Paribus) is headquartered in Paris and Paris' GDP is higher than that of London, Business Hub - more fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Paris than London or "Most visited city in the World" because we all know Paris wins hands-down.

Friendly people, it's a myth that parisians are all rude.
Fantastic food, it is well known that Paris has the best restaurants in the world. Another myth is that there are only french restaurants in Paris, there are many different cuisines to chose from.
Cleaner streets, Paris' streets and building facades are cleaned more frequently.
Lower crime and lower threat of terrorism.
Cheaper rent, cheaper and more frequent metro trains.
Paris has a bigger city feel as the majority of buildings in its center are around six floors and stretches for miles, whereas in London there is a narrow strip of around six floor buildings with the odd high rise yet not far down the road suburbs and single floor tyre shops etc begin.
Paris looks amazing. Le Chateau de Versailles is particularly stunning.
Parisian's are stylish and elegant.
Paris isn't the most visited city in the world for nothing.

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Simply Parisian's are not racist. I think, coz they do not speak good english and not an english speaker, so even though you are not speaking correct english you can still mingle with them unlike with the english. If they noticed that you are not a native english speaker and you do not speak correct english then some of them will start bragging or make fun of you. Same with the americans.. =)

just amazing
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Paris is beautiful! Musée d'Orsay, Louvre, Jardins du Luxembourg, Notre Dame, Monmartre and the Sacre Coeur, Pere Lachaise, I could go all day! As an art lover it is visual candy! By the way who cares about speaking an "international" language? you can get along in paris just fine, make a little effort and most parisians can speak some amount of English. Go experience something new, that's the whole point of travel. If you are there to be waited on hand and foot, get over yourself. oh and you can see a play in English in AMERICA!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
buisness diversity, more international companies, paris is a bigger city than london more things to do, more to discover.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
the views, the streets, shopping and in particular the myth about the city
