Since Republicans support tradition more, their beliefs would definitely be more aligned with a typical 18th century American like Washington. He may have been considered liberal, even radical for his time, but by today's standards he'd certainly be more of a right-wing conservative.

He helped establish a nation that is a republic, which protects the rights of the individual. Democracy focuses more on the rights of the masses. By studying the Constitution it is easy to see that our nation was intended to flourish as a republic rather than a democracy which usually evolves from a republic. Washington believed in rule by law and keeping the government from interfering in the lives of the people.
