Difference between Dyson and Miele
Dyson and Miele are both well-known manufacturers of vacuum cleaners and other appliances. However, there are some important differences in the vacuum cleaners that are produced by these two companies. The most obvious difference is that Dyson vacuum cleaners do not use dust bags.
Dyson is a British company that was created in 1992. The first Dyson product was a bagless vacuum cleaner and this is still the technology for which the company is best known. It was the first vacuum cleaner to be produced without a bag.
Miele is a German company that was founded in 1899. Miele has remained a family owned company, although its product range has expanded a great deal from its original butter churns. Miele is now a famous brand, particularly in its home country, with a worldwide presence.
Design
The Dyson Company was founded in 1992 by James Dyson, a British inventor who created an innovative bagless vacuum cleaner that used cyclonic separation in order to ensure that no suction was lost as dust was collected. Dust and dirt flows into the cyclone, where the air spirals quickly, throwing the dirt out towards the sides of the container. The pieces of dirt then fall down and collect in a bin, while the clean air leaves the machine. Dyson vacuum cleaners tend to match style with practicality, being designed with the user in mind.
Miele vacuums are often lighter and easier to maneuver than Dyson vacuum cleaners, although some of the newer Dyson models are more maneuverable than the older ones. Miele does produce upright vacuum cleaners, but it is best known for its compact canister vacuum cleaners. Dyson vacuum cleaners are typically upright cleaners, although there are also handheld Dyson vacuums and Dyson cleaners that have extendable pipes which can be used in the same way as a small canister cleaner.
Vacuum Bags
Miele vacuum cleaners use dustbags, while Dyson vacuums are bagless. A bagless vacuum cleaner collects dust in a container that can be removed from the machine and emptied directly into the garbage. There is no need to buy vacuum bags, which means that the running costs are lower. In some cases, the filter in the Dyson vacuum cleaner will need to be cleaned or washed in order to keep the cleaner working properly.
However, some people prefer to use a vacuum cleaner with a bag because they find it more convenient when they are emptying their vacuum since the bag can be taken out and thrown away, with no chance that the dust will be spilled. When a bagless vacuum is emptied, the dust needs to be tipped out into the bin, at which point it is possible that it could be spilled or even inhaled. Bagless vacuums need to be emptied more frequently than the bags in other vacuum cleaners need to be replaced.
Bagless vacuums such as the Dyson tend to retain their power more consistently, over a longer period since Miele and other types of vacuums that use bags can begin to get clogged up with dirt over time as the pores in the vacuum bags become blocked. This means that when a bag has been used for some time, it will make the vacuum less effective. However, the bags that are used by Miele vacuums are much less prone to this problem than cheaper bags, so Miele vacuums tend to retain their suction power well, even when the bag is nearly full.
Dyson is one of the best known manufacturers of bagless vacuums and a Dyson cleaner is usually a good choice for anyone who prefers a bagless vacuum cleaner.
Power and Reliability
Miele vacuum cleaners are considered very reliable and it is claimed that some can last for as long as twenty years. Miele places a high importance on testing its products thoroughly and ensuring that they will last for as long as possible. Dyson vacuums are also well made, but they typically last a lot less than twenty years.
Miele vacuums are manufactured in Germany to very high standards. The models that are fitted with HEPA filters are certified as 100 percent sealed, which makes them very effective and a good choice for people who suffer from allergies. Dyson vacuums do contain HEPA filters, but they are less effectively sealed, so the Dyson vacuum is not able to remove small particles as effectively as the Miele cleaner.
Although both brands of vacuum can be used on different types of flooring, including hardwood and tile floors, the Miele cleaners tend to be better on hard flooring because they are less likely to blow the dust up off the floor into the air, due to the different positioning of the exhaust vents.
