Entertainment is probably one of the most popular pastimes for people all over the world. They are sold through different mediums like movies, music and books. These pieces have all but one goal, and that is to keep the people interested in their products. There are a lot of things that we can take into consideration when comparing two entertainment mediums like books and music, and here are some of the most important.
Definition
Music is a collection of different songs that appeal to the public. They are classified into genres like rock, rhythm and blues, alternative, love songs, hip hop, classical and a whole lot more. A music piece is composed of the lyrics, which forms part of the song and the sound which is performed by the band. A band is composed of the vocalist, which is oftentimes the composer of the songs, the guitarists and the drummer. Books on the other hand are written compositions of a writer which can be of different genres as well. The stories can be categorized as love stories, comedy, action, drama, sci-fi, mystery and thriller.
Purposes
The purpose of music was primarily made to entertain people. It is also used widely for parties, gatherings and other occasions to set the mood of the event. At present, music has already evolved and their composers have created a way to allow their messages to the public fit in. Sometimes, we also hear music that is very personal in nature that some of us relate to their message. Hip Hop and Dance music are also played for the purpose of entertainment. They are accompanied by dance numbers to make the performance of the dancers more exciting.
Books on the other hand were primarily used for information. Books were authored by people who have greater knowledge and it is passed down from generation to generation to inform people of their discoveries and known facts. Books were also used to entertain people during the early years. They are even available for children through story books, and for the adults in the form of paperbacks and hardbound books.

There are a lot of popular types of music and particular bands that entertained the people for a long time. There were also music pieces that up to the present are used in many plays and movies as background music, especially those of the works of Bach, Beethoven and the like. Currently, some of the most popular bands that continue to entertain people are U2, The Black Eyed Peas, The Rolling Stones, Metallica and the like. When it comes to books, there are a lot of authors who are very popular in their masterpieces like Anne Rice, Tom Clancy, Nicholas Sparks and the others.
