Difference between Yatra.com and Makemytrip.com
Yatra and Makemytrip are Indian online travel agencies. Their websites provides myriad services which include online booking of tickets for international and domestic airlines, domestic buses, international and domestic hotels and Indian railways. These also provide holiday packages, visa services, MICE (meetings, incentives, conference, and exhibitions) and various other services. Customer can sit at home and plan the trip comfortably on just a click of mouse. These agencies not only serve ordinary travellers but also specialize in organizing trips for business travelers. Although both Yatra and Makemytrip serve similar purposes still some differences can be pointed out easily.
History
Makemytrip was established by Deep Kalra in 2000 in New Delhi. The Internet industry in India was then in its infancy. He realized that online travel agencies were not yet established in India and the sector had a lot of potential. Initially Makemytrip only took care of the India-US travel sector and slowly expanded until it launched a website for the Indian market in 2005. Emergence of domestic carriers with lower costs also provided a smooth track for the company to grow. Yatra entered the travel industry after Makemytrip. It had to face sheer competition from the latter although its growth was rapid after its founding by a group of people. Dhruv Shringi, one of the co-founders is CEO of the company.
Services
Yatra provides its customers with online booking for international and domestic air tickets, hotels and holiday packages. Bus and railway tickets can also be booked online domestically. Along with these services, Makemytrip goes one step further and provides B2B and affiliate services. Makemytrip has number of outlets opened all across the country along with its own travel shops, around twenty in all. Yatra, on the other hand, has its network roughly in sixteen cities. Both the companies have call centers working 24x7 in service of their customers.
Awards
Makemytrip has won several travel, business and airline awards. These include Superbrand India, Best travel portal CNBC, most visited travel website by comScore and Asia’s hottest technology start-up by Red Herring. It won airline awards for best passenger agent from Air Canada, Singapore airlines, Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines, Kingfisher Airlines and many more. Yatra, on the other hand, was awarded the title of Best Domestic Tour Operator by Indian ministry of tourism for the year 2008-2009. Juxt consult recognised Yatra.com as the most visited travel website through an online survey conducted in the year 2008. It was also honored by Galileo Express Travel World with “Best Online Travel Agency” award in 2008.
