Difference between Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani
Although the two Indian business barons generally do not need any introduction to the world, but for those who aren't aware of them – Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani are the sons of the biggest Indian business magnate of all time, Dhirubhai Ambani. Till 2005, Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani represented the same brand ‘Reliance’ but on June 18th, 2005, the legacy of late Dhirubhai Ambani was split between the two brothers and now the elder sibling Mukesh Ambani’s group is known as Reliance Industries Limited whereas his younger brother Anil is the Chairman of what is now known as Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG).
Personal Life
Mukesh Ambani, was born in Aden, Yemen on April 19th, 1957 and is 2 years older than his younger brother who was born on June 4th, 1959, in Mumbai, India. Mukesh Ambani is married to Nita Ambani and he is the father of two sons and one daughter. The younger sibling Anil is married to Tina Ambani, who was a Bollywood Actress in 1970s and 80s and he has two sons. Anil Ambani finds interest in soccer and is a big fan of Newcastle United Club in the English Premier League. He made an unsuccessful but close attempt to buy the club in September 2008. On the contrary, Mukesh seems to have interest in the game of cricket. He is presently the owner of the ‘Mumbai Indians’ club of Indian Premier League (IPL). His team made it to the finals in 2010s IPL edition.
Companies Ownership
After the dispute was resolved on June 18th, 2005 by the mother of the two, Kokilaben Ambani, the Reliance Empire was divided between the two brothers. It was the most spectacular split in the history of the Indian business industry involving renowned advisors and also the intervention of Indian Finance Minister, P. Chidambram. As per the decision by their mother, Anil was assigned the responsibility of Reliance Infocomm, Reliance Energy and Reliance Capital. Whereas Mukesh was given the charge of Reliance Industries and Indian Petro Chemicals Limited.

As of 2010, Anil Ambani claims personal wealth of around $13.7 billion and presently holds the fourth position in the list of wealthiest Indians while the elder brother Mukesh tops this list with a total worth of around $29 billion in his bag. Mukesh Ambani also tops the list of the richest Asians. The combined wealth of the two brothers makes the Ambani family the second richest family in the world after Walton’s.
