Rise To The Throne

Queen Elizabeth came to the throne in 1558, after which one of her first official actions was to make Protestantism the official religion of Britain.Mary Queen Of Scots’ rise to the throne was the end result of a sequence of events that began with a planned marriage to Edward, the sole heir of Henry VIII. The marriage didn't push through however, since the Scots decided that an alliance with France was more to their favor. Mary's husband subsequently died, and she moved back to Scotland, and later married Henry Stuart who was the heir to the English throne.

Many of the Catholics in the country then set about making plans for her to be replaced by Mary Queen of Scots. However, a plot to kill Queen Elizabeth was uncovered in 1586, and she then signed an execution order for Mary, a sentence that was carried out by beheading on February 8, 1587.
