Program Overview

The Daily Show, now more popularly known as The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is a program aired during weekdays (Monday to Thursday) for half an hour on Comedy Central.  It is a late night TV spoof which was first seen on TV in July of 1996. Illustrating the show as a false news program, The Daily Show gets the humor and satire of the program from fresh news stories, organizations amongst the media, political figures, recent book authors and most of the time, features from their own show. On the other hand, The Colbert Report, is another late night TV program which follows The Daily Show on Comedy Central. The Colbert Report is a by-product of The Daily Show which tackles the media and politics in much the same way as its counterpart. Furthermore, The Colbert Report satirizes the very conservative political show aired on Fox News – The O’ Reilly Factor.

Hosts

Between the years 1996 to 1998, The Daily Show was hosted by Craig Kilborn. The format of the show was very different from the present considering there were a lot of criticisms during Kilborn’s time. The show was always said to be very disreputable of other personalities especially those of the politicians. In 1999, the show was taken over by Jon Stewart and form then on the show never looked back. It has become more news-driven and since Stewart has taken over the hosting of the show, he is also the one responsible for writing his dialogues. On the other hand, The Colbert Report is hosted by comedian Stephen Colbert. He was a correspondent on The Daily Show from 1997 to 2005 and has won Emmy’s for his work in writing for The Daily Show in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
