Generic Vaseline can be cheaper than Neosporin or generic Neosporin.
I've thought that during reading this people can use Neosporin and Vaseline/petroleum jelly so the Neosporin can kill bacteria THEN the Vaseline can seal the small wound and blocking the bacteria and healing the small wound faster

I have a form of Lymphoma called Mycosis Fungoides which produces lesions of varying sizes and degrees on the skin. My cancer team told me to use Vaseline on the areas I scratched open. In April I had a basil cell cancer tumor surgically removed and was told to use only Vaselins.

Recently a skin doctor asked me what I was putting on an open wound on my toe. I told him neosporin, he said I might as well use Vaseline.

It is probably used MORE often because it is cheaper, has a wider usage, known for cold weather protection; and so if you considered chapping as a form of minor cuts then technically Vaseline will win as the most frequently used. However, if you ONLY count cuts where someone seeks help and is covering it with a band aid ... usage of Neosporin-like cream may out number Vaseline -- just because people think they will be making a difference.

This is what I use and I am very smart.
Neosporin has.an antibiotic (neomianin) that many people ( about 11 percent) are allergic to.
Vaseline works great on cracked dry heals. The cracks heal quickly with no adverse allergic reaction as experienced with Neosporin.
Neosporin is no longer effective against bacteria as it once was, like a lot of antibiotics.
It's been around forever, works and is inexpensive.

My doctor recommends Vaseline and is against using Neosporin for wounds, etc., because it is an antibiotic which may produce side effects, and it is no better than Vaseline.

I have treated sores that occurred after imiquimod treatment for basal cell cancers with vaseline. Great results in both speed of healing and prevention of scarring. This was recommended by my dermatologist and it really works. Also is soothing to the wound.
A scrape is not really an open cut or wound.vaseline would seal out germs plus keep moisture in to promote healing.
Decreases the recovery period.
