A fighter that has a good defense and offense with his whole body compared to just hands is a better fighter. Kickboxing coaches teach a competitor how to fight both a "kicker" and a "puncher". Boxers fight boxers, but it's the kickboxer that fights, kickboxers, boxers, and Muay Thai fighters.

Boxers typically begin their training younger, come from harder backgrounds, and their conditioning is perhaps second only to Muay Thai fighters. Kickboxing fighters often come from more traditional martial arts backgrounds such as taekwondo and karate, which develop fantastic technique and fitness but not necessarily the same degree of toughness. The limited area for legitimate strikes in boxing often means a boxer will take more strikes to the head through his or her career, meaning their 'jaw' (resilience to knockout blows) needs to be stronger in order for them to succeed at the sport.
