Although Bollywood may not be as huge as Hollywood, it is extremely famous and well acclaimed all over the globe for its unique productions and manpower, consisting of hardworking talents, producers and directors.

Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan are two of India’s most celebrated figures in the field of TV and cinema. Let us take a little peek into their lives and see why they are two of the most successful actors in Bollywood.

Shahrukh Khan

Background

Aamir Khan was born on March 14, 1965 in Mumbai, India. It was quite predictable that a flourishing career in cinema was a possibility for the young Aamir, as entertaining ran in his family: his father and uncle were both film producers, the latter also dabbling in acting and directing. When Aamir was still quite young, Nasir Hussain—his uncle—gave him his very first taste of acting by starring him in a movie in 1973.

Shahrukh Khan was born in November 2, 1965 in New Delhi, India. His family’s background was geared towards a different direction, having an activist father and a mother coming from a politically involved family. From the beginning he was quite a promising student; he took economics courses in college, graduated with honors and even decided to take up a Masters in the field of Mass Communication.

Careers Highlights

Although Aamir Khan was a child actor in one of his uncle’s films, he professionally began his acting career in 1984 in a film titled ‘Holi’. ‘Lagaan’, a 2001 film he starred in, happened to be one of the most critically acclaimed films locally and internationally—it was nominated during the 74th Academy Awards under the category of Best Foreign Language Film. Though it did not win, it shed brighter light to the movie industry of India and was given several awards in India and earned Aamir Khan his second Filmfare Best Actor award. So far, he has starred in over forty films, produced six and directed three.

Shahrukh Khan took up acting at Theatre Action Group in Delhi. He started with small roles in television before moving up to starring in his debut film ‘Deewana’ in 1992. During the early 1990s he gained recognition for starring in quite villainous and unexpectedly violent roles, one of which earned him his first Filmfare Best Actor award. A documentary titled ‘The Inner and Outer World’ of Shahrukh Khan was made by producer Nasreen Kabir in the year 2005, giving Shahrukh fans a more intimate view of his life as an actor and family man.

Achievements

Aside from accomplishments in the field of acting, producing and directing, Aamir Khan is also the owner of Aamir Khan Productions, a Mumbai-based film production and distribution company.

Shahrukh Khan has molded himself quite well, earning thirteen Filmfare awards. He has also founded two production companies and has also dabbled recently into television hosting.

Summary

  • Both actors are highly acclaimed in the field of acting, producing and directing.
  • Both actors are Filmfare awardees.
  • Both actors have created their own production companies and have experience in other fields of the film industry in India.
