I tired all these meds and non work as well as benadryl, the only thing is that it causes drowisness but i enjoy that side effect as it helps me sleep with my allergies but not very fun during the day but its still a good trade off, drowsiness for relive of my horrible allergies

Benadryl seems to provide quicker/effective relief.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
It is more effective in keeping my skin rashes at bay.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
it knocks the symptom out quickly. most of the time I only need to take one 25mg. capsule. very rarely will I need to take another. plus I like that it wears of in 4 hours, because I can decide if I should take another, or my symptoms are gone. Thank you

Seems to work better on my random rashes/hives and my itchy throat/nose/eyes....problem is, it makes me very sleepy and dopey. The other 2 work fine for nasal and eye allergy symptoms....not as well on rashes/hives

It works great for me

Does great at preventing hives when I mow the yard.

Benedryl not only relieves rhinitis symptoms but also stops allergic contact skin reactions. I haven't noticed a problem with drowsiness if taken with food and a glass of water.

it actually works better than the others. for one thing it does not clog up the nasal passages than the others and it actually makes you breath more easily

Because the dosage allows for a 4-6 hour window, I can take more often when symptoms occur. The 24 hour window of Zyrtec doesn't allow for more dosage when the effects of the drug wear off, which is usually after 16-18 hours.

I've tried all three. Claritin seems to target the nose. Zyrtec seemed to give me an allergic reaction. Benadryl actually targets the H-1 receptors around the body & gave me all over relief.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because the only thing Claritin does for me is get me high. I've never even heard of Zyrtec
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
My face was swollen due to an allergic reaction. Benadryl was able to take the swelling down in a couple of days before I had to go back to work.

Much less congestion and coughing in the morning.

Stopped my asthma
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
It works best

Fast acting without the nose dryness I used to experience with Dimetap. I never noticed any drowsiness - although I went to college in the seventies and have a high tolerance for "medication".
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I get anxious on Claritin and Zyrtec.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago

A

works quickly and reliably every time.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Benadryl actually prevents the onset and keeps it that way. Claritin had no effect and Zyrtec only works mildly
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
It works, the others do not.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
It seems to be more potent than zyrtec when pollen is high.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Fast and most potent. Gets rid of all hives when I have them.

Claritin and Zyrtec are so vastly inferior it is not even close. The complaints of Benadryl being "drowsy", are no comparison with how bad tendencies to grind your teeth from the headaches caused by the almost worthless antihistamines known as Claritin and Zyrtec. They are clearly over-hyped, advertising campaigns. I wish Dr's would wake up and recall they once actually took an oath to make people well, not simply manage a profitable business. It's so disgraceful that pharmaceutical salesman do steal the appointment time of patients with their grandiose buffets and endless perks for the physician, with the end result being you get a pill about as effective as the costly box they came over packaged in. While your face time with many Dr.'s is basically down to that "we can learn all we need to know in 15 seconds". Benadryl, and I DO mean...the real Benadryl, not the "new" one. Is vastly superior and unique in the world of medicines. Claritan and Zyrtec simply reflect that the FDA has abandoned their own rule of, "does this medicine do something in a way that is at all more effective to warrant it's release". While the U.S. has fallen off the charts as a respectable nation in health care. It's quite easy to look no further than the connection of the FDA with big pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies taking over the show. The FDA is no longer the American peoples watchdog, it is a money grab scheme. Claritin and Zyrtec are two perfect examples of this. These 2 meds are nothing but 21st Century frauds, with minimal value, and with a vast array of different side effects. OTC? They should be found only in one place, ITW - (in the wastebasket).

works for me! No insomnia which I get with Claritin.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I have insomnia
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Actually this is all I have tried so my vote really should not count.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
It works best compared to second generation antihistamines.

Claritin - 8

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I've tried Benadryl and it makes me feel sicker than if I were to not take it, sweat profusely and become dehydrated, even though drinking a significant amount of water. I do get sleep with Claritin, but don't notice other side effects as much. I feel Zyrtec is too new to try at this time. I will wait awhile to find out how it impacts others before trying it as a regular medicine for my allergies.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because that's the one that I started using about 3 years after moving to Hawaii
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I had runny nose and sniffles all day. I went through a whole box of Kleenex. When I got home I took one Claritin pill and by bed time it was over.
