Based on my work experience and the time of the year this holiday falls, I reasoned Memorial Day was the more celebrated.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I believe people are in 'celebration mode' due to the nice weather. Also, due to the fact most people have a day off from work and businesses are closed.

its the beginning of spring. a time to refresh and reload. it would be great to combine the two and make one glorious remembrance day instead of two that are very similar.

We decorate all members of our family's graves for Memorial day

The perception that it is all encompassing celebration and has a broader expanse of inclusion.

It is a Federal Holiday where most non-retail businesses are closed. It marks the beginning of summer, at least in the south.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because this day of remembrance has been turned into a crass 3-day shopping and booze fest.

It honor's more of the general military overall than veterans day
plus many families begin vacations and it falls on a Monday.
A longer weekend also to just have fun with friends and family
its Spring; nicer weather ;)

3 day weekend....it's all about themselves....and not the fallen :(
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because it is the day to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We should honor veterans and active duty personnel every day!! Today I honor all my ancestors who fought for this country so that we could be free!!!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
more people have passed away in all the wars combined whereas Veterans Day pertains to ww1
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
It also represents the beginning of summer.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
it receives a lot more attention because of the time of year. Reasons separate from the true meaning (start of summer, bbq) and social media make it more popular.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
To remember the fallen
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Why??????????????????????
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
It's great for BBQ's!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Due to the fact that people use the 3-day weekend to go on a short vacation, i.e. to the beach.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
More publicity about the day and people have time off from work to celebrate it

Sad to say many people associate Memorial Day with picnics and long weekend getaways as opposed to those who have died while protecting our freedom, that's why I'd say that Memorial Day is more celebrated than Veterans Day.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because people think it celebrates all who have died , military or not
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Not too many picnics in Nov.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Flowers are placed on many graves then; remaining for the summer months or growing season. It is the first long weekend holiday of the summer for many.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Instead of appreciating the dead soldiers and placing flowers on the graves of loved ones, people use this day for starting vacations or 3 day weekend trips. Many schools are out by the end of May. Veteran's Day in November is still celebrated for all dead and live soldiers, but because of the convenience of Memorial Day people celebrate it in different ways. It is good to always remind the people why each holiday is celebrated, because people soon forget. They get caught up in their own lives and forget the privileges given to them by men and women who gave it all to protect their freedom. Freedom is precious because of the blood shed for it. Even today, we have an enemy who wants to change the freedom of all Americans.

I think most people think of this as a party weekend and yes hopefully a party to commemorate life I grew up thinking it was a time to go to the graves of family to put flowers on there graves in remembrance as a kid I did not associate this with military only lives in general of people that have passed away. All lives are important no matter whether they served in the military or not. But it takes on significant meaning now that it draws attention to all the fallen heros who have given us peace in our world. Thank you for all the brave men/women who serve in the armed forces my son Cody was in Iraq ... God Bless America

Because many do not understand the true meaning of the holiday.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because most people see it as the beginning of summer and the end of school. It is shame that the true meaning is lost, like everything else we once held sacred.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because is close to end of school and marks the begining of summer
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I didn't even know there was a veterans day. Everybody knows about memorial day. That's when we want to visit the folks' graves, and they weren't even veterans.

The families delicate time on Memorial Day to their love ones that has passed away due to war time as sign of respect.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because my parents explained this as well as veterans day were very important. This is the first "summer" holiday also.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
It honors those who gave their lives in war so we are able to maintain our way of life.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
worldwide observance
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Since less then ten percent of the population has served in the U.S. Military it would make sense that more people celebrate Memorial Day, especially since it was changed to commemorate all lives lost and not just those who served.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
It's the beginning of summer, have the day off from work
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
As a living veteran some gave all all gave some. All being their life. My only issue is if those who did not die on the battle field but lived long enough to die later of long term illness both physical and mental caused of being in battle. I.e. Father n law fought in battle of the bulge. Saw much death and destruction by **** especially when liberating a prison camp. This plagued him to his death which was a cause of his death. Yet he did not die on the battlefield.
