I feel the Red Cross is there first and well prepared for immediate relief in disaster areas.
I like that Red Cross addresses basic survival needs.

I have known people that have needed help and then received a bill from the red cross. A friend needed flown home from service in the navy for family death and then sent a large bill. I worked at a hotel that donated rooms after a flood and the red cross received credit as if the rooms were paid for by the red cross. My boss even had to buy food for the people because the red cross did not provide anything for the people that were displaced by the flood.

I don't believe the Red Cross handles their money and donations well.
It appears that more of the donations actually get to the victims versus operating and administrative costs.
because 98 % of my money will go to help people. American Red Cross has high admin costs, only 90% will go to
the program.

I have heard Red Cross had some issues with the Haiti disaster. Americares applies more of the donations to those in need.
More goes to actual help for disaster victims.
