You're not waiting 6 months for a surgery in the US

Quality over something thatโ€™s free

I have heard incredible stories from Canadian citizens about horrendous wait times. One such person from Ottawa travelled to California for his surgery and had it completed and recovered many months before such a procedure could even be scheduled in Canada. Obviously Healthcare is more expensive in the US. But the Canadian system is slow and often does not meet the needs of the patients.

free-market allows for new medical innovations. Just take a look at what LASIK has done, and all because of free-market system.

Choice of doctor, quality of healthcare, lower taxes, and service on demand

I have lived in both countries; I would rather be bankrupt paying for a medical bill, then in a grave yard waiting for a Doctor.

because this post is obviously biased towards the single payer system

Have to leave the emergency room, go to the parking lot and call 911 to get service in Canada.

it's true

Even though the government supplies health care for their citizens in Canada there is the long wait times . This could mean life or death in some medical situations and that can not be ignored. The health of the patients should be put before cost. The U.S. does fall short in not making sure all of there citizens have access to affordable health care and making the ability to pay the number one issue before some patients can be seen by the best physicians.

nothing in this article talks about the cost of healthcare in Canada and how it is paid for. Although every citizen pays roughly 50 dollars a month for healthcare, the taxes to cover this are way more than what US citizens are willing to pay. Nothing is free, quit making statements that the Canadian governments pays for healthcare, it is the heavily taxed citizens who pay.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
because youe do not have to wait so long and there is way more doctors in the U.S. and I live in the U.S. but I will admit it is costly.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I, selected this option because every citizen is taken care of with a type of insurance. while the U.S. spend way over and there is still citizens that have no insurance at all. Therefore, the budget that is better is Canada. the system is working well.

The US system is great for those who can afford it with the price constantly rising.
The Canadian system ensures that everyone has access to some level of health insurance with private companies allowing the wealthy to pay more forfaster/better treatment.

Every citizen can get health services by way of the national health care system. I agree with the more socialist view as everyone should have a right to medical care and certainly emergency care without the additional burden of paying extra. Agree that there should still be an option for private and public. Don't agree that this should be covered by employers, but rather a tax credit like Australia, if you pay for private health insurance. The family can then choose the insurer and change to what suits them - they are not dependent of having a job and nor do their benefits change or have to qualify if they change jobs. They also can then choose if they can afford the private health insurance (through their tax credit - reduction in tax) and not be affected by job losses.

Getting sick shouldn't be an undue financial burden.

I'm a Canadian citizen, I'm a naturalized US citizen, I have experienced both systems. I don't know one person among my family and friends in Canada that would change to the US system!

health care can't be private, corp. need to make a profit, they will cut claims or increase prices or whatever they have to do to make a profit

Ever tried to work through what you plans you need to cover health insurance in retirement in the U.S. It is mind blowing. Plus the never ending co-pay bills you receive if you use and medical services.

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because we all get care when it's needed.
Plus Canada doesn't have gun problem.

Healthcare in Canada is less expensive because there are no "middle man" insurance companies as well as coverage being universal. As 40% of American's are not covered, the question of which is the best system is a mute point I would think.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I am Canadian, our health care is great. It is universal, it is covered by taxation, wait lists are only in elective or non life threatening kinds of situations, some health care is not covered such as dentists, rich or poor are medically treated the same. No one needs to worry that an illness or accident will bankrupt them. We have a generic drug program.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Much more convenient system.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because the Canadian government pays for health care services for any legal Canadian citizen.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
We should have adopted and implemented the single payer system used in Canada. We would be better off,This article even supports my opinion with the comparisons.A Canadian friend of mine whose brother works in Canada's healthcare system cites that Canadians have a nearly 3 year life expectancy longer than Americans. Canadians rank 3rd in long life spans trailing only Japan and New Zealand. The U.S. is 13th in the world in life expectancy. This mandated system (Obama/Romneycare was originally a CONSERVATIVE idea created by a rightwing thinktank called The Heritage Foundation. They ran away from it when Obama adopted it!BTW even the Rightwing darling Sarah Palin confessed when she was a little girl growing up in Alaska, she and her family used to go into Canada for their healthcare needs.Palin recalls how pleased she and her family were with the quality and affordability of the Canadian system.

Universal health care just makwes sense- all poeple should have access to health care.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I feel the effects it would have on our high infant mortality rate is the single greatest reason it needs to be adopted by the government before it's to expense for anyone including those privately insured to be anle to afford any healthcare services
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
because they offer coverage to evry one no matter their condition
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I am a Canadian who has always lived in Canada. I am married with 4 children. Since universal health care was implemented in Canada our
family has had many medical problems. These include 2 broken backs,
2 prostate operations, 1 pulmonary embolism, 1 broken collar bone,
1 broken thumb, 1 brain operation, hospital stays totalling 4-5 months
numerous G.P. and Specialist doctor visits, numerous stitches and other medical problems too numerous to record here. The cost $0 for the medical procedures and less than $50,000.00 for upgrades from ward
care to semi-private, meals, parking, gas, and other items not related
to health care. How much would an uninsured or underinsured person in
the U.S. pay
Also, I would not have qualified for medicade if I had lived in the U.S. and only 2 of these services were emergencies and neither emergency was the fault of a third party.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
because everyone has access to healthcare in canada
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because it is an important system to have, and Canada has obviously put a system in place to ensure it's people will be looked after and well off.
