SAP is an HR system that provides users with a wide variety of customization options. Under the ownership of Oracle Corp., the company is now only one of Oracle’s assets after the company recently acquired PeopleSoft Inc. At present, SAP is the market leader in HR systems software, although a shift is expected in the wake of the recent acquisition.
PeopleSoft, Inc. is a company that provides a variety of human resource and customer relationship management software. The company also produces a range of software solutions used in manufacture, financial services, performance management, and student administration. Among its main customers are corporations, governments, and various other large organizations. PeopleSoft was acquired by Oracle Corp. in 2005, and is now marketed under that company.
Features Comparison
PeopleSoft is considered by many to be a much smoother and easier to use management system than SAP. In terms of look and feel, as well as the many options to customize it to user made it come out tops in many company’s opinions.
That being said, both systems are actually quite similar at the core, although their respective front ends seem to differ considerably. In particular, the back end objects in PeopleSoft such as the records, fields, apps, and tools just seem to be better and easier to manage.
On the other hand, SAP takes the lead in terms of HR integration with manufacturing, distribution, and financials. If your company isn't involved in manufacturing however, PeopleSoft would be the better option.
In Use
SAP and PeopleSoft both aim to do it all and to do it all well. Unfortunately, both products still fall somewhat short of these aims. Nevertheless, their attempts to development products that adopt a modular approach to management software signify a step in the right direction. Attempting to cover all the different functions that each individual module performs would simply be beyond the capabilities and budget of any one provider. As it stands, systems such as SAP and PeopleSoft provide generally workable tools and feature sets for the task at hand.
