I've done business with zales. I bought a ruby ring on sale and was charged full price and had a bad time trying to contact them to cancel order after one month and it still was not sent out.

I have shopped both and have found the diamonds offered at Zales is usually lower quality than Kays.

There isn’t any comparison between the two. Quality and being reasonably priced is what I look for in jewelry. Kay jewelers delivers just that!!!

Kay works hand in hand with Jared and will accept the Jared card. Bought my weeding bands today and received a great deal plus 100$ off each piece which pretty much paid for the lifetime care program. Zales sales associates usually suck and are disrespectful and their quality just isn't there not to mention their crappy insurance policy

My husbnd recently bought the open hearts bracelet and diamond earrings for my Christmas present. Both very nice and have had many compliments on them. The salesperson was extremely nice and patient with me as I was choosing which one to buy. I will definitely be back. I have my eye on a watch...:)

My Sisters engagement/wedding ring was purchased at Zales. When looking at it, it for one, seemed fake (very big yet diamonds look cloudy). However, she says she paid $5,000 for it. Theres just no way that it is a $5,000 ring. Whereas my stiter-in-law's wedding right was purchased at Kay Jewelers. It's an antique looking ring, and the diamonds are beautiful!! I could totally tell the difference. Now I'm in search for mine and my fiance's wedding ring, and I am absolutely going with Kay Jewelers:)

My wedding set has been in for repairs 13 times in the last year and half. The only trade they offered was for a non certified diamond and stones were yellow. My ring is beautiful in near colorless AND certified. The staff is rude and not compassionate. I didnt even have my wedding band for our first anniversary.

my fiance and i looked and looked for an engagement ring and couldnt find one ring i liked at kay's. we found it at zales. when it came time to look for a wedding ring we ran across the same problem. I found several at zales while i found maybe one at kay's. pricing was also a big factor. it seemed to me that Kay's was way more pricy than Zales. Zales it is for us!

What they don't tell you is that Kay grades thier own diamonds for quality(color, cut, carat, and clarity) which is a bit like grading your own highschool exam. Zales uses three outside sources that are part of the GSA (Gemological Society of America) which is one of the most prominant and oldest gem societies in the USA. Therefore, if Zales and Kay were looking at a diamond that could be an I1 or I2 for clarity, Kay would automatically choose I1, whereas Zales might grade lower if that would be more accurate for the stone. So yeah, Kays might say that they have better quality, but just like the cheater in highschool, they will get caught.

In Minnesota, I have witnessed managers and sales associates flee Kays to find work at Zales. They all say that the jewery is significantly better. They also know that Kays overprices jewelry to cover warrenties while Zales has regular prices with the option of a warrenty add-on. They also offer a free life-time diamond warrenty and free alternative metal warrenty. But who cares about what jewelers say. Custumers usually come back to Zales after physically comparing. Zales definatly has a better signature diamond. The Leo(Kays) has a little more than 60 facets cut into it. The celebration diamond(Zales) has 102. The trade-in program was mistyped...zales accepts trades that are thiers, but not from other jewers. Custumers have complained that even though Kay claims to accept jewelry other than thier own, they actually don't. I believe that this article is either outdated or written by a fan of Kays because there are no examples or solid evidence provided.
