Alpha Kappa Alpha women uphold themselves in the most respectful and beautiful manner while being of service to everyone. Their presence throughout the community and on campuses is comparable to no other sorority, and they do the most work out of the two.

While I say AKA because she has a special place in my heart, I think both are known about the same since they tend to be cross-associated. When you think of one, you think of the other.

I believe that AKAs are proud, beautiful, educated, confident women. This fact is why even though it may seem early, I, a thirteen year old African American, have chosen to pledge to the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority once I meet my requirements.

Alpha Kappa Alpha was the first Black Greek Sorority founded in 1908, by 20 beautiful ladies of grace. Delta Sigma Theta is just a want to be sorority that tries to duplicate the valor of AKA.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
AKA is the only way! The ladies of AKA carry themselves with class, grace, intelligence, and beauty. The are the reflection of strength and femininity, they are social and political. I love my AKA's everywhere, AKA is the first and finest and its all because Ethel Hedgeman Lyle paved the way. If she never founded AKA then there would not be any girls there to break away and form the wannabe but never will be sorority of Delta Sigma Theta.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was the first Black sorority, creating the model new Black sororities followed. The election of Madam VP Kamala Harris, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., brought additional worldwide notoriety to the organization along with numerous other history making members such as Coretta Scott King, Mae Jemison, Maya Angelou, Eleanor Roosevelt, Toni Morrison, Sharon Pratt, and Althea Gibson; to name just a few.

Look, let's just call it like it is, I always hear members of AKA brag about being the FIRST sorority but as a famous artist once said "There is always a roughdraft BEFORE every masterpiece". If members of AKA would just be honest with themselves and face reality...if AKA was so great and truly working to uplift the community, why would the founders of Delta Sigm Theta desire to change the organization? Not only change it but give it a complete overhaul. Now, I am not a member of either sorority but I have researched both organizations extensively and what I have learned is Delta Sigma Theta is actually the first TRUE public service sorority. Face members of AKA you all are the ones to continue this childish rivalry with members of Delta because you know the truth.

OO-OOP!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Delta women have always represented the epitome of excellence. As was stated previously, "The Delta Girls did not necessarily secede from AKA but disillusioned the existence of the former organization when 22 women the entire active membership constituting a sovereign body voted unanimously to reorganize." Deltas have always wanted to serve more than socialize.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is more well-known globally for its unwavering efforts to serve all nationalities of women. The sorority is well noted politically for outstanding services such as the well attended Delta Days at the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. as well as in other states. Public awareness and academic excellence also sets this sorority apart from others. Delta Sigma Theta is also better in their service and response to the needs of the community and to our youth. They create exceptional educational programs and projects that are essential in all cultures.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. women leave a greater imprint on future aspirants of BGL sororities. In my research, I have found that they are more likely to encourage aspirants to research all sororities to confirm their LIKE and/or LOVE for the organization.

The sorority's "Five Point Program Thrust" is extremely comprehensive and focuses on improving the lives of citizens within the community where members lives, throughout the United Stated and abroad, through specific programs.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
The Deltas are very imvolved in public service. They provide numerous educational opportunities for the young girls in the community. They mentor these kids and provide training for them wheich will ultimately help these young ladies to be prepared and successful in their future endeavors. They are also very involved in the political process and are strong advocates for fairness for all citizens. I see the ladies of this sorority providing service to the community all of the time. Thank you for all that you do for our youth and our community.

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
The only sorority worth recognition. I have seen them hard at work throughout my community for as long as I can remember.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated truly represents the diversity of all women who epitomize caring and conscientious members of society. For this organization, it is not about competition, always trying to stay ahead of our rivals, but it is about making society a better situation for all people. I have several AKA friends and they are great people but as an entity, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated holds themselves to a hire standard. We want to pave the way for future generations. The twenty-two founders saw that there was a greater need and purpose for women to be involved in so they left the cotillions and society parties behind to help shape a better world.

Deltas have way more history and public appearances than the aka's, yet alone any other black sorority. today to this day they are still making history. Not only were they first Black sorority to participate in the rose bowl parade but they were the first BGLO period. And the woman's suffrage was an excellent way to showcase their meaning of what a true service woman is. I'm a strong feminist and I hope to one day soon be a DELTA!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Oh yeah they can be just as petty and say they are the LARGEST BLGO out there just like they always claim since they have nothing else to say but that they are the first lol you always need a rough draft before the masterpiece sweetie :*
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Although Alpha Kappa Alpha was the first Sorority, Delta was formulated by 22 women who broke from AKA as a means of starting an organization committed to working for the cause of the African American community.

1913 the women of Delta participated in the historic Women Suffrage March on Washington.
