We run both Xerox and Canon in production shops and Canon breaks down less and is quicker to repair.

Because Canon uses mono component design. Xerox is a dual component design. Technically, Canon uses a self replenishing developer system which reduces vastly more reliable than dual component like Xerox.
The fusing system on the canon eliminates the need for thermolamps like the Xerox. Lastly, 8 Bit technology is better than 1 bit technology. (although 1 bit technology is good in it's own aspect)

If you use Canon, the reliability is hands down in their favor. The quality is similar between the two manufacturers.

Having 33 years service experience on Xerox equipment and 8 years on Canon products; the Canon is a much more superior product. The quality and design on the Canon machine is a much better reliable product. Both have great "Education" service support, service documentation, Regional Technical and knowledgebase support, and training. Technology changes are vastly improving products daily.
