Because when you look up in the sky,you see at least 2 or more geese flying together, but with a duck, you only see a couple together.

Whenever I see geese, they're flying south in large groups of about 15-20+. When we see ducks in our neighborhood or at local bodies of water, they are usually just one or two mated pairs.
