been using it for several years off and on months at at time or a week or few nights on /off. I cant take it every night cause I get adapted so it becomes noneffective. you must take time off / holidays they call it. never any sleep walking / memory issues with me.

taken on a empty stomach at bedtime improves quality of sleep. I have been taking this medication for over 20yrs, so my tolerance is much higher, most people start with 15mg's then to 30mg if needed, however, some people like myself take two 30mg cap's at bedtime, I sleep 8 hours, no hangover and i have energy for the day. i take this and after the night i am not impaired....not an hypnotic drug..

Doctors are prescribing Ambien more they are getting away. From benzos because abusr potential. Also benzos are fot short term use only.

its widespread presence in the media, social-media, in part from what I personally feel is caviler and irresponsible advertising to a target market who do not have the benefit of higher education giving them the ability to make truly sound and informed decisions. Which also then puts those of us who do have the benefit of higher and professional education/degrees specifically licensed to treat and manage the health of our patients, in an unfavorable and dangerous position when patients come in having "self-diagnosed" and decided on the treatment path to pursue, after having "read it on the internet".

Because Restoril and Dalmane are benzodiazepines which have a higher potential for addiction than Ambien. Additionally, benzodiazepines can lose their effectiveness over time. However, for hard-core insomniacs, Ambien tends to only help you fall asleep, not stay asleep, making Restoril and Dalmane better choices. Also, Dalmane and Restoril are easily approved by insurance companies where Ambien can be a huge hassle.

Because most doctors offices have everything from posters to ambian post it notes and pens so i assume theres a big push by the pharmacy conpanies for doctors to perscribe ambian over tge other options

In my opinion:
The name "Ambien" is the best for marketing purposes. It sounds like "ambient" or "ambience" and implies quiet comfort.
The name Dalmane sounds like something you'd give a horse.
Restoril is trying with the "Rest-" prefix, but the "oril" ending sounds too upbeat to make consumers automatically get a sense of sleep.
Words affect consumer's perceptions. I'm sure lots of research goes into marketing and then the best they can come up with usually are inane words which don't immediately sell their product.
Just my thoughts at the moment...

It's the most expensive drug and drug companies push it because it is a money maker for them. It never really worked for me. Useless drug for insomnia. Dalmane works great.

Because doctors tend to listen to big drug companies and the FDA that say the newer sleep aids are safer then older benzodiazapin ones, which I don't believe is nessasarally true.

It is the first med offered by physicians but most people go back and ask for something else as the freak-outs and flip-outs are dreadful & dangerous .
Less so with Dalmane and Restoril - both of which are used in care homes
