The Navy has a larger marine fleet. Currently, the USCG has only about 40,000 active duty personnel and is under the dept. of Homeland Security, it has always been the smallest service.

The USCG hasn't grown appreciably since I was in from 1967 to 1971.

Because they have a lot more people than the cost ghosts. The cost guard is a very small group composed to the navy.

I selected this option, because the Navy is bigger than the Coast Guard.

Due to the Navy's larger size and more damanding mission as a military force, the Navy has much greater resources then the Coast Guard.

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
it is clearly the Navy because as stated in the article above the coast guard is smaller.

also I tried to get in the only reason I didn't was because I got a 68 on the ASVAB and they want a 70 so when I talked to a navy recruiter the coast guard called me and said that I don't have to retake the test but by then I had already set up a date for the physical with the navy

in short the coast guard lies. why put me through that, deny me, then tell me im eligible?

because the question asked which one has a larger marine fleet.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I'm a Coast Guard veteran. We're fully aware of the age and size of our fleet. One correction, the Coast Guard was transfered to the Dept. of Homeland Security in 2003.

Also, might be fair to mention that the U.S. Navy was disbanded in the 1780s.

Harder for the CG to have a larger fleet is the total number of service members is only 36,000, versus the Navy's 378,000. Unless the CGs were all in 1-man dingies and the Navy's were all on (now extinct) Battleships...

over 1500 smaller craft and around 280 cutters (ships over 65ft) means a lot of time on the water handling craft.

patrolling the coast will require more fleets.

Besides the larger White Fleet the Coast Guard also has a large fleet of black hulled working ships plus a large fleet of smaller patrol boats used for port security and search and rescue.
