Namaste is one on one greeting mostly & Namaskar is when you greet many at one time.
From the above explanation, I inferred this to be the case.
Because south indians are against homosexuality.
South Indians are very calm and respectful people.

if one thinks they are the one and only, then they must be referred to as namaskar, or if they have yet to discover that which they truly are, beyond name and form. Most people unless shown otherwise are probably referred to as namaskar, where namaste is said to those which realize they are, it, all, whatever you may call ______.
People from the south are more traditional, and have greater depth of remembrance of their practices.
