Because in the real world, I never noticed any difference between the two so went with the cheaper edgelit
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
its best
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
difference is small wrt to back lit and advantages are a plenty.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Price, weight, need to transport often.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I like the it looks like [its very thin]
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
picture is very close to the same on the 4k for 3000 difference almost half as much and with tv changing so fast why not
Sony 4k 70 vs a 65 rear lite the choice is simple

Price - Dummy!

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because I'm not some **** who needs the ABSOLUTE-MOST-AMAZING-AWESOME-CRAZY-PERFECT-PICTURE-THAT'S-BETTER-THAN-ANYONE-IN-THE-NEIGHBORHOOD kinda' TV!!!! I'm a working class dude who just wants a nice TV to watch movies on from time to time...and so edge-lit LED is good by me. I bought a 40" Westinghouse LED 1080p, 120Hz recently and love it...it delivers great contrast, rich color and it can support everything I need. Do I have the greatest TV on earth? Nope. Do I want to spend an arm and a leg for something better? Nope. I've got to buy gas to get to work...maybe when Obama is out of office, I can upgrade.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
ı bought it already
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
In 2011 only Sony had a highend full led tv that cost a lot! The solution seems to be a edge lit led + dimming ...
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
thinner
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
cuz its thinner.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Much cheaper!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Based on the narrative the contrast ratio would not be as noticeable and since there are more pixels than The lights in the backlit tv is not as perfect as marketed.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
bcz the rate
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
much thinner and lighter. our eyes cannot see minute imperfections. sony is a great tv.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
There will be solutions to the problem -- the future of thinner HDTVs is in this technology !!!

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
i think its light weight and easy maintenance. the contrast ratio has some negligible differences. but if vivid picture is set in EDGE LED then the difference is not visible.

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
6-8" depth would look be the issue, if it was only twice as deep as the edge lit, I would choose it.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I would like better black level and contrast as most TV review site say, contrast is the number one things to look for. Edge doesn't have good contrast as you said here.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago

I am primarily looking for a 4k tv for gaming on x- box-s console and computer.I primarily play FPS games. From what I am reading here it seems Backlit would provide for more realistic lighting effects since the leds behind the explosions on screen would provide more light for explosive effects and various intensities of lighting much more effectively than edge lit. So it looks like I will be purchasing the Sony 900e.

I already own a Samsung TV with backlit LED but without 3D. Now another purchase is right ahead and I was actually interested in the new Samsung UE 55D 8090. This TV is an edge lit LED and I already had the chance to watch some demos on this TV, in 2D and 3D as well. Even though this really new and state of the art TV provides 3D, 800mhz, 55 inch and a variety of really nice online features called "Smart HUB" I decided either to keep my current TV which is 9' smaller but with backlit LED or to buy a new "NEO NDP" from Panasonic. Why? The picture quality in light scenes is really awesome and the designers really did a great job. But when it comes to dark scenes this TV shows how worse the panel quality really is, not only compared to my backlit LED but also compared to low pricing LCD TVs without LED technology. I was really disappointed and now I´m frustrated as **** because the different manufacturers decided only to produce edge LED any further but not backlit LED. Who the f*** really cares about 2cm thickness more or less? To me it´s all about the quality, not the price. But it seems that quality doesn't count any further. It´s a mess! Now Panasonic's NDP technology is the only alternative I have.

I have just bought a Samsung 40" Edge Led TV (UE40D5000).
The picture is AMAZING! However I have noticed some "clouding effect" (white patches) around the corners and the top of the screen! The shop where I have bought the TV told me Its very common problem at Edge Led TVs. I have exchanged my TV for a new one and I have the same problem again. Im really thinking about to go for a Full Led Backlit TV (UE40D5500) cause the shopkeeper told me He has never seen clouding on a Full Led Backlite TV.
