Difference between Spiderman on Broadway and Spiderman the Movie

Spiderman is an action packed storyline that has been and continues to be presented in both movie and Broadway performance form. Spiderman started off as a comic book hero, however, as is common with movie ideas of late, comics are being brought to life on the big screen and on the stage. And in both cases, there are many differences in the two when they are compared to one another. Let’s take a look at differences such as the environment in which they are done, the basic idea of the act, and the ratings that each received.

Environment In Which They Are Done

Spiderman on Broadway: Turn Off the Dark, effectively on the stage in New York City. There were many special effects that were used in order to get the desired results that the production cast was looking for. However, the Spiderman on Broadway was riddled with accidents due to cables and ideas not working out. The main character was replaced many times due to being hurt on stage. The closure of the show between April 17th and May 11th, 2011 is needed to revamp the show prior to the official opening night in June.

The Spiderman movies were shot on location in a studio. There were many stunts performed, however, with tried and true safety standards in place, those who performed these stunts were not hurt and the camera caught the action in every exciting angle. The safer environment was definitely experienced in the movie version as they were prepared for the actors and stunt doubles to do their stunts with state of the art equipment.

Basic Idea Of The Act

Both the Broadway and movie version were supposed to be jammed pack with action. The Spiderman on Broadway version was set to musical themes, composed by Bono and the Edge of U2, that were meant to create actions and feelings that related to suspense in order to get the desired results. The live audience always adds magic to a show when everyone is excited, creating electricity in the auditorium – when the show is orchestrated perfectly.

The Spiderman movies were more action packed with sequences that were full of jumping, shooting spider webs, running and overall action. When considering the action of the comic book, the movie is the one that hits the nail square on the head.

Ratings

The Spiderman on Broadway previews was something that did not receive as good of ratings that they had hoped that it would. There were many who found that the true Spiderman idea was not stuck with and it was basically too artistic in nature. However, most plays that are held on Broadway are those that are considered artsy. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that the new and improved version will be a genuine audience pleaser when it is set to be released in June, 2011.

The Spiderman movies grossed a huge amount of profit in, so much so that there were several sequels made and Spiderman 4 is set to be released July 3, 2012 in 3D. However, most would agree that the first does not compare with the others since the first always seems to be the best.

Compare and Contrast

Both the Spiderman on Broadway and the Spiderman movie were highly anticipated, however, there were some differences between them:

  • Spiderman on Broadway’s preview shows experienced a lot of accidents while stunts were being performed.
  • Spiderman the movie was pretty much accident free and would be considered the safer of the two environments.
  • Spiderman on Broadway is considered more musical in taste and the musical score was composed by Bono and the Edge of U2.
  • The Broadway show did not get the full action that the comic books laid out. Upcoming changes could address this.
  • Spiderman the movie was full of action sequences that kept the adrenaline pumping.
  • Spiderman on Broadway preview shows did not get as good of ratings that they had hoped for. Many changes are underway during the show’s blackout period. The show is set to open in June 2011.
  • Spiderman the movie did well when it was first released, so well that sequels were made. The upcoming sequel Spiderman 4 is set to be released on July 3, 2012 in 3D.
