Capcom or Capcom Co., Ltd. is a Japanese company based in Osaka known primarily for its video games. The company was established in 1983, and it currently has numerous branches and affiliates in North America, Europe, and the rest of Asia.

Partnership

Marvel and Capcom have entered into a famous partnership that has given rise to an acclaimed and very popular series of fighting games that utilize Capcom technology and Marvel characters. The Marvel and Capcom team-up was the first team-up for Capcom, although the company has since embarked on other similar "vs" partnerships with companies such as SNK, Tatsunoko Production, and Namco.

The Marvel characters in the Marvel vs Capcom series are actually based in large part on the characters in the early 1990s TV series by Marvel, and in fact are often voiced by the same actors. Many of the Marvel characters in these games were also from earlier Marvel-based games by Capcom, such as X-Men: Children of the Atom and Marvel Super Heroes.

Concept/Storyline/Plot

The tag-team model used in the Marvel vs Capcom games isn't actually a new invention, although many gamers and industry experts agree that the series did a lot to refine and shape the genre. The game was also responsible for introducing many of the fighting and game play concepts commonly seen in similar games today.

The series is also characterized by a sketchy plot, although there are numerous reoccurring themes and references throughout the series across different games. In any case, Capcom has already announced that the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will feature game play that is tied in more closely to the plot and storyline.
