Difference between Pilates and Yoga

Fitness and exercise should be staples of any healthy lifestyle. Today, there are many fitness programs to choose from, and each has its own disciplines, methods and target areas. Among the many fitness programs are two very popular ones, namely Pilates and Yoga. Although they both have similar key points, it is important to note that these two are actually very different in terms of the points discussed below.

History and Origin

The physical fitness system of Pilates was created and developed by a German man named Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. Originally, it was called Contrology because of the developer’s belief that muscles in the body could actually be controlled by the brain. Today, it is practiced to strengthen a person’s trunk muscles, improve breathing patterns and align their spinal column.

On the other hand, Yoga is a traditional Indian set of disciplines which cater to the physique and the mind. The term Yoga means “to control or unite”. Although there are many forms of Yoga, it is philosophical and spiritual in nature. Hindu philosophy has seen several branches of Yoga, each with a purpose. Today, it is closely associated to meditation, intricate body contortions and spiritual discipline.

Principles and Procedure

There are eight principles involved in Pilates. Alignment of the spine and correcting the posture are believed to be the first steps to improving balance and preventing injury. Breathing is also focused on, because more oxygen flowing in the body means better muscle control and strength. Centering involves strengthening the core and the entire trunk which holds the rest of the body together. Concentration and control of muscles then bring about precision of movement and agility, after which one can move with efficiency and flexibility.

There are too many types of Yoga to discuss but because Yoga is mainly a discipline, we can say that the main principles of Yoga involve proper relaxation, proper exercise, proper breathing, proper diet and positive thinking and meditation.

Benefits

Pilates benefits people who are looking to increase their physical strength, their core control and posture. It is also great for those who would like to improve muscle precision and would like to be more flexible and agile.

On the other hand, Yoga is perfect for people who are looking for inner, more spiritual strength. Yoga is for people who are looking for relaxation, deep meditation and better sensuality. It works great for those looking to relieve stress.

Apparatus

Pilates utilizes apparatus meant for resistance and strength training like the Reformer, the Cadillac, the Wunda Chair and the Foot Corrector.

Yoga doesn't make use of any external apparatus except a yoga mat.

Summary

  • Pilates is a physical fitness program. Yoga is a spiritual and meditative discipline.
  • Pilates aims to strengthen one’s core and improve posture. Yoga aims to strengthen one’s discipline, physically, mentally and spiritually.
  • Pilates benefits people who are looking for physical balance and strength. Yoga benefits people who are looking for better mental and spiritual discipline.
  • Pilates involves apparatus for training. Yoga uses only a mat.

Pilates and yoga are very common and popular exercises for developing stretching and flexibility. They are done through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits. Pilates and the various Yoga styles are both physical, can be done by men and women, and contain various exercises and routines.

Everyone who wants to better themselves , no matter what area (or areas) of their lives , ought to look at "The Builder", or "Manufacturer"..... You see, as humans we instinctively think WE have to do this or that ------ and while ther is nothing wrong with eating a healthier diet , exercising , and so forth ,

WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS TRYING TO RUN OUR OWN LIVES , AND FIGURE THINGS OUT FOR OURSELVES ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Father God (God of the Bible / Father of Jesus Christ ) loves each and every one of us , and doesn't want us { nor expect us } to struggle or intellectually manage our lives ................. There is His Holy Word , Jesus , and the precious Holy Spirit to help us in every way ! ! !

I'm NOT a "holier-than-thou" who is trying to judge you or dog you ..... just someone whose been down a extremely rough road in his life , and have found TRUE PEACE , FULFILLMENT , PURPOSE , and

eventually ((( ETERNAL LIFE ))) ............ ♡♡♡ Love , "Tex" ♡♡♡
