Honor is in line with integrity and is understood and appreciated world wide. Respect is more subjective, it often depends on one point of view, culture, background and circumstances.
I can respect you and I will treat you as such, however, if I honor you, I will most likely change my posture in your presence.
I think that honor is higher up because it is more of an official thing then a small town thing

For me respect seems more superficial and even distant relationally while "honor" seems to presuppose a bit of emotional investment and, therefore, offers more depth than mere respect!

honor brings forth the worth of a person or group by the actions.
judges are addressed as Your Honor which connotes impartiality and transparency which they have to exhibit more than just respect accorded them by their communities.

To honor someone is to hold them in the highest regard, to truly appreciate them, whereas usually if you are respecting someone you are merely outwardly nice
