my Dad died with ALS
had a friend who died from it. It was pretty quick and very destructive.
because though it won't show till your between 40 -75 once it does it progress faster that lupas and it has no remission. I have had muscle spasms since military service 77-89 and when I started working in the oilfield I notice a big problem holding on to things that was in 97 but also in the military but did not think anything about it except age factor. now I have spasms in the muscles, twitching, at times hard to even turn a door ****, muscles in neck cramp as well as legs and arms. I'm not saying I have it but MRI of brain showed nothing really and of c spine some degeneration but nothing to explain my symptoms and VA neurologist had them done due to possible MND.
It is more aggressive.
My mother in law died within a year of her diagnosis. She was 55 yrs old.
Because i have Lupus and i know the difference between the two of them. I also know that ALS has no cure and only has one medication, also because lupus has remission stages and ALS does not, it is a chronic disease
It's fatal and you pass away withing 3 years and your muscles begin to shut down right away lifespan is shorter with ALS
Seen it first hand in my family and I am very informed in ALS and with what I just read up on Lupus it is definitely different.
based on personal experience lupus has flared up in my daughter a few years after her period started until last year when it became obvious to me that there was something abnormally wrong about her health. The gp wouldn't send her to a specialist so I took her myself this year and it was relatively easy to diagnose her with lupus. I'd say she's probably been in a flare for approx 3 years but is improving since treatment started halfway through this year. So her lupus took a while to strike (flare)
I believe from the above and observation of my own symptoms that ALS one treatment option whereas with lupus there seems to be a variety of options available along with life style choices. I wish anyone suffering from either compassion , total understanding and most of all your not alone. Same same but different , as we are all unique and may present in other ways, symptom wise.
Death in ALS patients usually occurs within 2 - 5 years of symptom onset. ALS has fast progressing weakness and atrophy.
Progressive and fatalndiesease
