I have been a very long time customer and have had my credit cards misused on two occasions. Both times they contacted me at once to see if I made the purchase and when I said no, they shut the card down at once and reissued a new one.
Not so with Capital One, although I still have a Capital One card, I use my American Express cards more than any other.

I have had both cards for a very long time. I find that AE is easier to work with when I have a dispute. They tend to give me the benefit until the matter is cleared up instead of waiting on the vendor. They are also more willing to not charge a late fee when I am out of town and forget to pay on time (I rarely do this so that is probably why). When I do travel across the US or out of the country, they have the vendor check my ID to be sure it is me. That lets me know they are keeping track of the location of the charges.
