coz we have a lot of knowledge and experience about everything than 100 years ago. People in early days were supersticious and conservative. Today we have the rights to speak, women enjoy the freedom unlike early women, science had made people more logical.

Everyone is texting on their phones rather than developing and maintaining conversation skills.

they weren't as educated, but had more respect for other people's opinions and were willing to listen and willing to care and willing to help. To start with there was much more face to face conversation. Families actually ate together and talked while doing so. Neighbors knew each other and talked more often than now. Two or three generations actually were heavily involved in each other's lives. The morals of right and wrong and responsiblity were better taught and understood by better examples for parents. The way to get ahead was always concentration, hard work and putting off short term rewards until later. Credit was much less used then. If you wanted something material, you had to save your money for a while and then buy it. If you did not have enough money for something you wanted, you simply had to do without it. Children did chores and found many ways to work and make money at very young ages.

People had to communicate face to face where they were able to read not only what the people were saying but their expressions and body language. They were much more intelligent socially because they had to be in in order to conduct everyday activities and to be successful, there was no other option. Currently, people are able to communicate through texting where they need not see or hear their counterpart. There is no requirement for constant communication to stay informed or be successful. Technology is moving at a rapid pace toward automating much of life's tasks and l, thus, many jobs can be done writing or using computer programs. We are isolating ourselves from reality in exchange for a virtual world that allows us to be completely informed, successful, and comfortable while being alone. This is actually becoming desired and marketed as freedom.

My own son is one of those young people with their heads down looking at their phone. Texting is not conversation. Manners and polite conversation seem to be a lost art. Has anyone today heard of Emily Post?

Because back in the 1900s, people were taught not to cuss and treat other people with respect.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Back then, people who were next to each other did something that was referred to as talking. Modern society, no one speaks to each other. Two people are next to each other, yet they don't even acknowledge each other. They instead look at a screen and text away to people, completely missing the opportunity to look around and appreciate the person next to you.

100 years ago people respected the concept of time. Today people text because they don't want to converse with each other. Everything today is put off til tomorrow. 100 years ago, we didn't have a choice of putting things off until a later time.Especially if something broke and you had to travel on foot to get it fixed, you didn't say "I'll just do it tomorrow"

They read great poetry and learned Latin based words. They really delved into topics and had to follow the structured rules in order to pass. Students studied in one room schoolhouses so they heard every grade level being taught right along with the level they were learning.

This took a few min to come up with my opinion... I feel like people are better educated now for a more "intelligent" conversation, but a hundred yrs ago there wasn't the technology there is now, taking up our time and attention. Also, our communication is done by texting, and typing which neither shows emotion.:(

100 years ago you had to speak to each other face to face for the most part and communication was done mainly by word of mouth. Technology was not as advanced as today. skills were taught by talking and showing and not reading, writing and testing. It was constant communication which intern led to better socialization and conversation skills.

BECAUSE WHEN CHILDREN USED TO SPEAK TO THEIR ELDERS, THEY DIDN'T CURSE AND THEY WERE BY FAR MOR RESPECTFUL TO THEM
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago

Today everyone communicates via facebook rather than in person, so when it comes to face-to-face conversation people often get lost for words.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
It is very true that people nowadays don't have a high set of morals. Everything is just information coming out of the mainstream media; telling their citizens what they should do. Everyone is working for THEIR OWN NEEDS. There is no more conversation,
