i have 2 pairs of leather dress shoes, one has lasted me 14 years and aside from minor wrinkles due to a lot of wear time and how long i have had them, they are still very comfortable and will wear them for many years to come. the same cannot be said for the synthetic leather dress shoes and work boots i have owned in the past which has lasted between 2-5 years before they started cracking and were falling apart. one pair of work boots i owned developed a major crack and separation between the toe and the laces where pieces started breaking off after a while there was still tread left on the sole but i had to get rid of them because they were becoming uncomfortable and did not provide protected on rain or cold as they previously had. i will now only buy real leather work boots and dress shoes because i know that they will last for many years, sometimes a decade or two. redwings work boots also are able to have the rubber soles replaced meaning that the leather part can last for decades with proper care which would make it a better financial investment as well as not needing to produce more shoes out of petroleum to constantly replace them. i will make the same decision on buying leather only as far as leather jackets as i owned a leather jacket in the past and it was remarkable comfortable and durable, but was unfortunately stolen some time back.
