Rolex are extremely durable and more prestiges than a Omega watch.

luxury watches are all about prestige. 2nd place is not an option when trying to impress the superficial and material oriented people.

Omega seems to want to to appeal to a younger, more hip crowd that wants "bling" on their watches, Rolex while not heavy on bling are in my opinion much more substantial watches.

most rolex watches are more rounded products than most omega watches.
Inside, rolex might not have decorated their machines down to great details, but they focus on robustness (at least, we perceive it as it is).
Outside, most Rolex watches have simple and timeless lines. Moreover, the metal used (904L) seems to be "more noble" to the eyes, and certainly more scratch resistant.
Thus, perhaps a Rolex watch was designed to be able to withstand the test of time, and I appreciate the logic behind that.

As for Omega, and some other watch brands, they tend to over-design the product, becoming unnecessary and/or cumbersome in real world use. For instance, look at the bracelet design of the Omega Seamaster Professional. It's basically over-decorated, and getting too "90's", while the polished part is prone to scratch.
Instead of becoming a trademark of itself, Omega tries to match Rolex at its own game, developing products as an alternative to Rolex. This, I believe, is a form of flattery to Rolex and a free-marketing campaign to Rolex. Not everybody wants to be wear a copycat, and that's another reason. In my opinion, Omega must develop its own "color". Look at Panerai, it doesn't try to be a Rolex, and succeed big time. The trend of oversized watch started with Panerai, not Rolex (and Rolex now developed bigger watches as well). Now, that a very good study.

ROLEX BECAUSE OF THE NAME AND BEAUTY!

BUT I JUST PURCHASED A BEAUTIFUL PLANET OCEAN AND I LOVE IT. THE MAIN REASON WAS THE QUALITY IS AS GOOD AS ROLEX , BUT WAS PRICED AT 4,400.00 LESS THAN THE SUBMARINER.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Classic Design. Iconic. Everyone recognizes a Rolex.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Status symbol is a Rolex. I am the owner of a 2011 Omega PO and I love it! I just want a Rolex Submariner S/S
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
best of the best
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Thinking of getting their latest Explo 1 introduced in 2010;
Less bling and therefore more elegant yet totally 'practical'.
Looks good not too expensive and high resale value.
Cheers,
GM
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Both are great watches and one should wear what they like. But, Omega's marketing about being the official "moon" watch fails to mention that famous astronauts did wear Rolex as well.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
tradition and better quality and elegance greater selection styles of watches and brand recognition
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
i love the submarine watch
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
excellent inhouse movement.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Even if Omega is trying to compete with rolex, there will never be a real competiotin. Omega will never reach Rolex.
P.S. Panerai watches hold resale value better than Omega ones!

Technical superiority and value.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I've owned both watches and they similar models and feel they are both very capable timepieces. That being said they both are visually appealing but feel that name plays the biggest part. When it comes to wearing one I tend to wear the Omega due to lower cost and less fear of damaging the watch,I would rather replace a bezel or crystal in the omega than the rolex at about one third the cost.I can't see where a sapphire crystal for one or the other would cost triple to repair.Just my opinion
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Better overall value
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Have had one since 1969.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Omega is a proven watch. A James Bond watch. The official watch of the Olympics. NASA's choice for space flight and the first watch on the moon. Only qualified by NASA for extravehicular space missions. Worn by many famous and legendary individuals. The likely choice for future manned space missions to Mars for a forseeable future.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Available easily rather than rolex as well as in price
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago

I like the looks of the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Thay are beautiful
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because I think that they are better looking, and they don't have the cyclops crystal.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
i own an omega
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
The simplicity of Omega is also very elegant, something that Rolex overdoes in their watches.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I own a speedmaster and love it's simplicity and heritage. Rolex are for executive tarts!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
because it less expensive then rolex and gives you high class looks like rolex and omega watch is also a well known brand in our earth
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I think that omega quality is equal to Rolex. Rolex is a great watch but overpriced by thousands of dollars!
Omega watches are beautiful and sine they are price below Rolex, it gives the consumer a better chance to own one. I presently own both brands. I like them both! Tie!!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Omega have longer history and price more resonable than rolex. Rolex serving too expensive.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
In singapore, even taxi driver, hawker also wearing rolex. The old generation only know about rolex and just go for it. They though that only Rolex watches are the best and know nothing about Patek philippe or vacheron Constantin. Omega is not so popular and lower end compare to Rolex. I do not want to be so attractive to anyone esp. robbers. I just want to have a good & presentable watch for daily use.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I own a two tone Rolex Submariner and a Omega Seamaster. Both are fantastic watches, however I feel the stainless steel in the Omega is more substantial and refined. Also, I prefer the size (42mm) of the Omega.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I have the one
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I like the beauty and smaller appearance and the diamonds on Omega.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I see Rolex as an older person watch while omega to be both classy and stylish. I am in my mid 30s and currently preper an Omega although I will probably own a rolex when I am in my mid 40s.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Have had several and love them!!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Appearance (Aqua Terra), function (unique movement of the 8500 calibers), sentimentality (other Omegas in the family).
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
price difference
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Nice, fair price while Rolex (for me) is very over price.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Inhouse movement. Beautiful designs. Rolex sucks.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Mechanically a better value. Add $1,000 just for the Rolex name. The Rolex quality is not superior.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
i like the omega look over a rolex
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
extremely well made and stylish as well
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Do not believe in paying a premium for perceived status, quality should rein. Also, the beauty of a watch is personal taste or perception. Personally I favor the Omegas as the more attractive watches.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
James Bond plain and simple.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
omega all day long far more superior movement in most cases' curently have a 32205000 speedy and lookin to buy a planet ocean wich coinsidently when compared to a submariner date it looses 1 second a year compared to 4 secs for rolex
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I find little beauty within the Rolex and consider it only a status symbol, the Omega has much more character and class, I would never waste my money ( even if I had some ) on a Rolex, I put much more emphasis on beauty & character that shows from the Omega!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Speedmaster is good from Omega
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I really like the design of this watch I believe in the product. I can hope to afford a model on my middle class wages with out suffering. I like the vintage models out there for collecting which I have and love the product for its accuracy and style.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Omega is a way more intelligent and forward thinking choice - taking up the George Daniels co-axial movement was a master stroke. In the end why buy a non quartz movement unless it is simply gorgeous like a Patek or intellectually clever like the co-axial. Unless Rolex can work out a new strategy that crown is going to totter and fall.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I wear an Omega Sea Master AquaTerra now. I love it because of its beauty in simplicity and elegance.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
PORQUE YO TENGO 5 OMEGA.... SEAMASTER, GENEVE Y SON FANTASTICOS Y EXACTOS Y TIENEN UN PROMEDIO DE 40 AÑOS DE FABRICADOS

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Omega have made the decision to move upmarket in direct competition to Rolex. They have a very long lasting feel and a luxury watch is a thing of beauty to last over time to outlive the owner if you like. Omega will outlive Rolex that is the appeal it's about beauty functionality and quie appropriately TIME
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
As good as rolex but cheaper
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I own both, like my planet Ocean Chronometer, its larger and the band is more significant. I like the luminous features on PO better as well.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
omega is more accurate..expensive but reasonable..
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Omega seems to be the watch you purchase because you want a outstanding watch, not to show your rich!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
i have been wearing my grandfathers constellation for a number of years and have had no problems - also it looks a lot less flashy than a rolex.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
it was warn on the moon, Rolex failed, I wouldn't want to buy a watch based on its looks , I would rather invest in an expansive watch based on its functions. Simple, Rolex is like a woman purse they wont last long in a collection , unlike an omega which will show every one your manliness and a little piece of history on your wrist.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
The Omega, especially the new 2011 models, have a superior mechanism to that of the Rolex. But honestly, I simply believe the Omega Seamaster Professional Planet Ocean is one of the best looking watches on the market, or at least its that way in my affordability range.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I just think they are more less known, and don't have the "look at me, I have money" tag related to them as much. Omega for me.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
year calendar function
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
hi, i think there's something about omega that cannot be forget,
the only watch on the moon , and when the tests have been made the rolex daytona simple stop, and this say something about omega.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I prefer omega as they are less flashy and more elegant in my opinion.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
cost and looks
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
They are beautiful watches and are less flashy than the rolex
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I'm using my Omega watch since 23 years with the same precision, durability and beaty.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Omega watches are exclusive in design and are worn by some very famous people. Rolex are just as good but are far to expensive for what they are.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Omega design is more chic, rolex is too gaudy and flashy
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
pure timeless superior watchmaking. No rivals.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
value form and function over bling
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Omegas are built to last and are usually bought as a lifetime timepiece, not so much with Rolex which seems to attract the fickled status seeker. However, both are quality watches. Although I have been told by numerous watchmakers that the Omega is built much better with a better movement.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Much better as a timepiece

Rolex caters to the image minded person. EVERYONE assumes the one you have is a fake. In fact that's the first thing I am asked when I wear mine. Omega is known by those who know quality watches. They are really unique and the vintage watches are even more so.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Omega Moon watch is just stunning. Rolex is assumed to be fake many of times. Omega ... not so much.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I love them!!!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Appeal to younger crowd.name james bond attached to it much more good looking then the rolex rolex is a great watch but not for some one who is in between the age of 30 and 45.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
more bang for your buck.. not ridiculously priced

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I own an Omega. I buy a watch for my personal enjoyment-not to impress others. People who know watches know Omega while those who who don't know watches and follow the crowd know Rolex.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
It's built better than rolex. Clasp is better. Center links in omega are solid and rolex are hollow. But I have both
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
more watch for your money
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
For Rolex there is a lot of fakes around!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Rolex is for the soft man.. Omega for the real man.
