**** please. Photography, you get a camera, some birds, good timing, and some luck, and bam you are a photographer. Painting though, it takes time. It takes work. It's heart-wrenching. I have had my share of both mediums and I must say painting is definitely mor fun.

Painting has more liberty to be creative, it has reign in artists' hearts for centuries and will continue to flourish in mine :)

I select painting because it requires more discipline and much more sweat.
Something that requires more work and introspection leads to gratification and self-knowledge.

This may be an eastern thought vs. western. And BTW, I am a photographer.

Each picture lasts longer in its making as you paint in the details yourself. You also get to really think about what is in the picture rather than just see the main focus of the picture and just admire that. This is what i think but it dose not mean that taking pictures are not fun. With pictures you can travel and if you see something wondrous you have all the time in the world to take the picture and then admire the scene in person. To be honest, I think that people could do both. One could take a picture of something amazing and then later paint the same picture. That way they get the fun of doing both mediums.

Painting is not produced by a machine. There are human choices made all along while making a painted artwork. Photography is more like standard rendering where technology, alogrithms and chemical processes which define the 'look' are the result of hundreds and thousands of men and their particular preferences. With painting you have the luxury to start from scratch. Painting is, in this way, more native and exclusive while photography is standard and not entirely that of photographer.
