Because the culture is over fur thousand years old. I think China existed as a formal culture and people before Japan, though it is also a deeply rooted ancient culture. I know Korean evolved from Chinese, and potentially belongs to the same linguistic family as Japanese, so I assume it is the youngest of the three.
