Spartans basically had trained for combat their whole life. They had to sleep outside since 7, lived a tough life, became more strong,etc. The battle of Thermopylae was nothing. If all Spartans fought, with the support of other Greek city states, Persia would have barely any chance. Persians may have the greater number, but a spartan would take out around 5-10 man before he dies (or if he survives).
