They over leverage themselves and there is little if any regulation to provide risk oversight. They are closer
to gambling, playing the odds than they are investing.

They are only open to accredited investors, which means that the investor must have over one million in liquid capital to invest, and institutions with over twenty-five million in liquid capital. Also, hedge funds use their aggressive trading strategies to manipulate asset prices and the overall market. Hedge funds now represent 30% of the NYSE volume of trading on a daily basis. Yet, the government is just now beginning to register them. Even after the Dodd-Frank Reform Act, hedge funds still will not have real government oversight of their trading strategies. Hedge fund managers can get away with murder in the market and no one can prove it because they do not have to release the details of their market transactions. It is ridiculous

Misleading advertising and commonly falsified/misleading earnings reports while hedge funds on average don't outperform the market by significant margins (low alpha). The economic leverage of these funds have immeasurable impact on business and often mismanage individuals' capital.
