It is beautiful, strong, majestic, and personally when I think of pegasus' I think of the begining of TriStar Pictures films like Labyrinth. Those define my childhood and I'd always loved that pegasus and wanted one. (And they make me feel like if I were to own one it'd be like being transported into Clash of The Titans or something)
The Kentucky Derby symbol is a Pegasus so it must be the epitome of equines.
Simple. The original Unicorn was not a true horse like creature - it was more of a Chimera; a cross of a lion (lion's tail), goat (beard of a billy goat), deer (cloven hoofs), and rhinoserous (single horn).
Pegasus was a mythical winged horse that allowed the likes of Perseus to travel farther & faster by land and by air. The point being is that it is a representation of the love of our equestrian friends, while the Unicorn is more fantastical, and represents the best qualities and beauty of many animals.
Because when I'm around horses I feel like I'm flying.
