The Simpsons characters are multi-dimensional, and it's humor appeals to all ages, while I feel that Family Guy mainly gets laughs with shock value, low-brow humor, and it's jokes are all very similar. I get bored with it.

The Simpsons is an iconic classic with lovable characters and generally interesting and coherent plot lines. The cultural references are always a hoot, and when they poke fun at something, I would say that they do it in the nicest way possible. Call me biased, as I've never watched a full episode of Family Guy, but Seth MacFarlane's creations are very controversial. Every little thing I've seen coming from the program is irreverence and/or disrespect towards extremely sensitive material like religion, ethnicity, and crime. Even the toilet jokes, which are too immature for an adult TV show, are something to be disgusted about. At least The Simpsons can make a few jokes about church that mostly EVERYONE can have a laugh at. If anyone reads this, don't give in to the mainstream or semifrequent YouTube recommendations. Stay away from Family Guy and American Dad. Matt Groening isn't a saint, but I'm fairly certain that he knows where to draw the line for comedy.
