Freedom and Liberty are concepts derived from philosophy and political philosophy. Both terms generally define the rights of an individual to be free from the oppression of others or a State, and to be able to act according to his/her will. Some phrase this concept as 'civil liberty' or 'personal liberty'
Liberty is a social condition subject to external circumstances such as political and economic ones. Liberty, to be secure for any, must be secure for all--even the most unpopular ideas

Freedom is a philosophical, psychological and even existential concept that refers to the ability of a person to make decisions and choices, and to express these without incurring prejudice. Particularly, individual freedom is of supreme importance. Therefore, anything that prevents us from doing what we want is the absence of freedom. What this also means is we are free if we are doing something we have willed ourselves
Certain freedoms that may be 'bad', and therefore certain restrictions on freedom that may be 'good'. A simple example of this may be in the form of traffic laws - I may have the desire to get to my destination quicker by driving the wrong way down a one-way road, but no-one would say that the restriction on my freedom to do that without punishment is necessarily wrong
Person is released from jail out on bail. He now has his freedom. But he does not have Liberty. He is not at liberty to go where he wants and do as he wants because he still has to answer to the State. You can have freedom without Liberty, but with Liberty, you truly have Freedom.
So, liberty is a political term, while freedom is metaphysical

Because Liberties are given by the government. You might have the Freedom to yell fire in a crowded theater, but you will be arrested and therefore do not have that Liberty. The more we are restricted, the more that true Liberty is corroded.

I believe that Liberty is being restricted more now than Freedom.

Every day the government, through law and or regulation, forces "we the people" to do things we do not want to do. Most of this is done by unelected bureaucrats.

Because liberty has become a condition of the political environment today rather than viewed as a God-given right.

Freedom is simply one choosing to think or behave as they wish without
regard to consequences thus making it independent of liberty.

While we have the 'freedom' to do or have certain acts or items it is a regulated right. And any regulation on a God given right is to infringe on that right.

I place a certain level of The Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the word Liberty. And Liberty encompasses freedom. A man can lose his Freedom when he commits crime against society. It is a part of his liberty that he has forsaken by choice. His Liberty however, if you take away his Liberty, he has lost everything. Or....words to that affect. If I had more time, I could give it more justice. But you get the picture.

Based on several readings pertaining to the founding of the USA, the founding fathers talked more about having liberty than freedom. Apparently in their minds and the philosophies of the time, liberty was freedom from the oppression of too many governmental forces, i.e. excessive taxation, restrictions, controls, etc. That is why they wanted a smaller federal government that was only given limited rights and the states were given all other governing rights. Today, we have more restrictions, regulations, and controls that has caused us to have a larger government that is ineffective, and maybe too large not to fail.

I judge myself to be a liberal. I believe that every person has a right to be as he chooses, providing he does so without abusing this right.
I think I have the liberty to choose whether or not I follow religious tenets. In my opinion, this liberty to choose is far different than the freedom to choose because NO ONE GRANTS ME LIBERTY, it there as a matter of nature. Freedom on the other hand, denotes some ephemeral permission, if you will that I must earn or maintain.

Because the government rejects the philosophy of natural law and individualism leading to collectivism and a gradual undermining of freedoms.

my ability to do as I wish as long as it does not hurt or infringe on another persons ability to do as they wish and does not break any laws is being taken away slowly.

Government can enact laws that can limit an individual's choices or actions (liberty) and still allow one to be free to discuss, debate or protest that limitation.

Because more and more social constraints are being imposed, by government, media, and organizations to constrain the cultural limitations of behavior.
Yes, there is more recognition of sexual orientation and lifestyle, women's rights, and respectable professions, but each is more constrained and more conflict engendered by media and political attempts to create emotional arguments and artificial conflicts for the benefit of the news organization or politician. Thus every objection to any behavior is presented as a matter of public debate, even when there is no impact of that behavior on the general public. "Consenting adults" is no longer an adequate defense for any behavior, no matter how harmless or remote.
