hard wearing
Because its shinier
from the information above
It's ability for each layer to melt into each other forming one thick layer
It takes fewer coats and it is naturally shiney
Because of the shellac
I just read it!
I want a harder finish for a plant stand that I am going to make. I have already used it on the seat of a storage bench. I was surprized to learn that it also can be used on metal.
dont care
amore natural product
Hardness / can spray
more glossy durable
I've worked with both. Excellent article.
Contains plastic protective coating
It is shinney in itself due to plasticizers materials used.
gloss
because it contain an plasticing agent.
lacquer is useful for finer painstaking pieces - varnish however covers larger areas which deceives the eye.
Thicker, combines coats :)
lacquer provides the desired shine with fewer coats than varnish. The look of the finished project is more natural than that of varnish with its multiple, thicker coats. Both provide good results but I prefer lacquer, especially for smaller projects.
High gloss due to shellac in alcohol formulation.
For a dining table that will be stained first, which will be the best to coat in more flat manner? I am thinking clear varnish.
Lacquer forms a high gloss finish due to its shellac in alcohol solution. Lacquer has more tendency to stay shiny longer because it has a harder wearing surface than varnish. Lacquer is usually spayed on which adds to providing a smooth surface vs brushing on varnish.
just a guess.
It contains plasticizers which allow it to sit on the surface of the wood and dry with a smooth almost shell like finish.
