macy's has bought few of other department stores and took out. Even burdines that it was called back then. Macys made the thanksgiving parade that occurs every thanksgiving and in new york city, the largest store in the world is macy's NOT JCP

  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Macy's has great coupons and sales. Macy's also has the items I want.

I used to shop at Penney's also, but don't now. They dropped all coupons and special sales. Some of the mercandise is not what they have had for years. The only recent time I purchased things at Penney's was Black Friday, when they had good sales items.

Also, I have for years collected the Mickey Mouse Christmas ornaments, which Penney's gave out on Black Friday. This year they gave out stupid buttons instead.

Also, they changed the name from Penney's to JCP. Penney's has been around since I was a child and I won't shop there again unless they go back to their former selves.

I dont know but Macys seems to have more in the line of clothes, shoes, jewely, etc and I always walk out of the store with something I bought. I cannot say that about Penneys. I think there downfall was getting rid of the catalog. I dont seem to find anything in there anymore.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
in this area Macy's is more convenient. it is located in the local mall where as JP Penny's is located about 10 miles away in a smaller town

MORE COUPON SPECIALS TO ATTRACT CUSTOMERS.

I shop in Zanesville Ohio. There is no Macy's there but JC Penney has been a mall anchor store since 1981. JCP has been STEADILY losing the clothing business for 6 or 7 years. The NEW marketing isn't working either. I think they were complacent and didn't think 'modern'. Actually, my opinion is a Macy's would do well there. I am a seamstress and MANY of my mature customers have a difficult time finding appropriate clothing for work and formal wear. Many of them travel to Columbus Ohio to shop at Macys'.

More quality goods and easier to find made in U.S.A. brands
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Years ago when Penneys was known for good reputation and quality brands they started little by little adding cheap made in China goods, offering for instance 3 prices of sweaters, one cheap for 12 dollars from China, a better quality made here for 25-30 dollars, eventually they sold us out and now the low quality made in China sweaters are you guessed it 40 or more dollars. They still don't get it.

Macy's has amazing discounts on their clothing plus their Macy's Credit card has plus discount. All you need is to use their card then pay it back on the same day, you can practically save 20%-40% on the top of their sales. Their customer service in the store are awesome. They are more caring and will always help customers when they need it. One of the associates was willing to measure my neck and arms to pick right dress shirt. I appreciate their customer service.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I find their stores to be more appealing and inviting.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Its a little bit more marketed
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
They have a lot more dress selection and variety of name brands that customers are looking for.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
because they sell to the younger generation. Their products are appealing to the younger crowd so, therefore, lots of youths flocks in and out to get makeup, fashion wears, bags e.g Micheal Kors, etc and of course perfumes/cologne and lingerie.

jc peny is more practical in sales than macys. i understan there is a different quality in clothing and etc. But in the end quality will always out stand the macys.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because I shop at j penney alot because of the sales, as well as most people. The lines are long however the cashiers are fast, and they get you out with a smile. jc penney in Wayne, NJ is a very pleasant place to shop, and the workers are very nice, as well as kind.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
not everyone has the money to spend at macys, there is much to say for the lower prices jcpenney provides
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
because in the economy right now, JC Penny is cheaper than Macy's
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because personally, I do more of my shopping here. You just get more better deals from JC Penney than you do Macy's. Macy's is a bit overpriced on a lot of their items.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Because of the lower prices and better quailty clothing reagrdless of its designer label. At Macy's most of theie better guality clothing is dependent on it's brand name.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Since Economy's down, people seem going to JcPenny more often.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
JC Penney appears to have more stores in both large retail market areas as well as small areas. Not to mention a more routine shopping market in smaller areas.

Cheaper stuff for younger crowds.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
The lower prices with the same quality
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Penny's is in all different sized towns across America; Macy's just in large cities. Also Macy's took over many hometown department stores Rich's, Burdines, FamousBarr making people in those markets VERY ANGRY.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
JCPenney's frequesnt "free shipping" offer for their online stores is a BIG plus. Their website is also SO much easier to navigate, browse & selectons is pretty good across the board.

Macy's website on the other hand is not very user friendly at all. Their shipping charges is a BIG minus point.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
Friendlier staff at JCPenney. They seems to be a happier bunch. At least at Emerald Square Mall in Attleboro, MA. Compare to staff at Macy's, they overall seems like robots. Just saying the taught CS line but doesn't really sound like they mean it.

I get better value for my mne a JC Penney too. At the end of the day, I just need clothes that looks & function good for my family. A towel is a towel. A bedsheet is a bedsheet, etc. I guess I dont emphasise on brand much. Also, how come playtex bra us cheaper at JCPenney than at Macy's? They are BOTH located in the same mall!
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
I don't know many people besides me who shop at Macy's
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago

I do not like that creep macys. It finished all old good department stores: Lazarus, Robinsonsons, MarshalFields which way better than Macy's. Macy's has no style, most merchandise made in china with desgner stickers.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
better customer service
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
LESS EXPENSIVE THAN MACY'S. BUT I WOULD RATHER SHOP AT MACY'S.
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago

Jcpennys seems to be a better choice for people because its less expensive
  • Anonymous . 3+ yrs. ago
JCPenny has 25% more stores than Macy's dose. JCPenny is a great company that have lost touch with their day to day bread and butter custombers by hireing Ron Johnson from Apple. JCPenny stores took on alot of debt to restructer and rebrand and put themselves at odds with their custombers by removing coupons.

From a marketing point of view there were huge mistakes in the pricing strategy by Ron Jonsons team. First buying, is a form of expression and reinforces self worth. If you cant feel good about buying something and feel like youve been had, you wouldnt want to buy anything from the place. Buying something thats worth $100 that you were able to get for $50 makes you feel smart and in charge. Buying something for $50, with nothing but the guarantee thats its the lowest price, makes you feel cheap.
