Silent Hill is a true masterpiece. It weaves the most intense stories, and does more than gets you to care about the characters. You understand them fully, with all of their faults included.

Because it's the type of horror that sticks with you and truly makes your skin crawl. What makes something scary is completely subjective. However one key factor to making something truly frightening is to play on ones emotion and to me the most powerful emotion is fear of the unknown. This is the language that Silent Hill speaks. Add this on top of its powerful storytelling and symbolism and you've got a one of a kind horror experience on your hands.

Because hellish abominations born from the tortured psyche of the characters is much scarier than some zombie or biohazard incident.
